One of our favorite social media posts of the year shows a teenage Black girl’s emotional reaction to getting a pretty pink Stanley as a Christmas gift, but we will get to that in a bit. Every now and then, a trend comes along that makes some people lose their damn minds and leaves others scratching their heads wondering what all the hype is about – think Tamagotchi pets, Trapper Keepers and jelly sandals.

Now, in 2024, it’s all about the Stanley cup: Although Stanley products have been around since 1913, the company decided to give the brand a major glow up in 2020, when it rolled out brilliant recent colors and accessories for their cups, water bottles and thermoses to appeal to female customers. And with the facilitate of a little social media magic, Stanley became the cup everyone had to get their hands on. The brand currently has a steadfast fan base and over one million followers on TikTok.

If you’re in the camp that’s wondering why there’s so much hype around a $45 tumbler, you’re probably also asking yourself, “are Black people buying these things?”

As a matter of fact, we are. Stanley cups get lots of love from Black people online. You can lose hours watching more TikTok videos than you can count of Black people showing off their cups and personalizing them with accessories like straw covers, charms, insulator sleeves and more.

Then there’s @makeitwithmicah who posted a clip of herself decorating a Stanley for her daughter with charms, a cute lid cover and a pouch massive enough to hold lip gloss, a brush and a compact mirror.

“The Stanley has better life than me,” wrote someone in the comments.

And we can’t leave out @ivorionduh who is giving her already sexy latte-colored cup a makeover with some seriously luxe accessories.

And here is our favorite of Stanley posts, showing a teenage Black girl’s sweet and emotional reaction to getting a pretty pink Stanley as a Christmas gift from her father.

“I would get her every color after that expression!” wrote one person in the comments.

We couldn’t agree more.
