The United States women’s gymnastics team understood the assignment at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games: bring home the gold. They did just that on July 30, delivering the United States its first team gold medal since 2016.

The squad, which included Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera, talked about competing in Paris as a chance for redemption after they left the Tokyo Games with a silver team medal in 2021. Their flawless performances in this year’s team competition proved they were up to the challenge and removed any doubt that they would finish at the top of the podium.
But what has been the subject of debate this time around is the team name. And when former U.S. gymnastics team member Aly Raisman asked Simone Biles at a press conference what this team wants to be called, Biles gave a hilarious answer that was truly on point.
“I’m not going to say it,” Biles laughed, according to TODAY, before agreeing to reveal the acronym “FAAFO.” If you don’t already know, Biles really wanted to say “f-around and find out.”
To give you a little context, U.S. women’s gymnastics teams of Olympics past have had unique nicknames. There was the Magnificent Seven, which won the first-ever gold medal for Team USA in women’s gymnastics at the 1996 games in Atlanta. The Fierce Five, which included gymnasts Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman, clinched a team gold medal for the country in London 2012. The Final Five introduced Simone Biles as a standout and brought home another team gold for the USA in Rio in 2016.
Biles posted the official team name – The Golden Girls – on X on July 30.
