Forget lifeless speeches from CEOs and faculty members. Grambling State University’s Fall 2024 commencement ceremony is going to be one of the hottest tickets in town, as the graduating class will hear some special words of advice from a New Orleans legend.

Rapper and entrepreneur Master P — real name Percy Robert Miller — will be the keynote speaker at the Friday, Dec. 13 commencement ceremony. The New Orleans HBCU announced the special event with a post on X on Dec. 2.
Miller’s rise to success should serve as inspiration to the up-to-date college grads. In addition to being the founder of the legendary No Limit Records, which has represented notable artists including Snoop Dogg, Mystical, Mia X and Silkk the Shocker, Master P has an estimated net worth of 200 million dollars and impressive portfolio, which includes investments in companies like Rap Snacks and No Limit Clothing.
Although he’s become an international superstar, Master P has always been a champion for his beloved hometown of New Orleans. Just last month, the “Make ‘Em Say Ugh” rapper, who serves as the city’s ambassador for entertainment, announced the first inductees for the NOLA Walk of Fame, a stretch of engraved Fleur-de-lis along Canal Street designed to honor notable New Orleans natives.
The first group of honorees, which includes musician Jon Batiste, actor Anthony Mackie, journalist Bryant Gumbel and rapper Lil Wayne, will be unveiled on February 6, just in time for Super Bowl LIX.
“It’s all about celebrating the culture, the people, the trailblazers down here. I’m getting the chance to do that,” Master P told Fox 8 New Orleans. “Lil Wayne is one of the first 50, and then there will be many more coming after this. So, this is a celebration to keep our people involved and into the community.”
