Downtown Little Rock Partnership unveils mural at Bowen School of Law

Date:

The Downtown Little Rock Partnership officially dedicated a recent mural by Little Rock artist Joel Boyd in the north parking lot of the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law at a press conference Wednesday. Gabe Holmstrom, executive director of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, said the DLRP has been working on getting Boyd’s mural up for three years.

In the foreground of the mural is a silhouette of Lady Justice set against the Little Rock city skyline amid a hazy purple sunset. Recognizable Little Rock buildings, like the 25-story Stephens Building and the recently remodeled Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, populate the painted cityscape.

“We’re very, very pleased with the mural and with our partnership with the Downtown Little Rock Partnership,” said Colin Crawford, the Bowen Law School dean. “This mural will certainly not be the last of our interactions.”

The spirited mural can be easily spotted from MacArthur Park, just down the street from the law school.

Boyd has painted several murals in Little Rock, including one at the corner of Cumberland and Sixth streets that the Arkansas Times covered in 2019.

“It’s a great honor to be a part of a meaningful public art project like this,” Boyd said.

Boyd’s other murals from across the state can be found on his Facebook page.
Funding for the DLRP’s public art program, which offers one-to-one matches with building owners who are interested in beautifying their exterior walls, comes from the Downtown Food Truck Festival, held this year on Sept. 22.
