Taylor turned himself into the Broward Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale and is facing a felony charge. He was released on bail the following day. Per TMZ, Taylor turned himself in at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

He was behind bars for a few hours before being released at around 3 a.m. on Thursday. Taylor, 65, was arrested in Florida in December 2021 for the exact same thing that got him arrested this week. Taylor’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said his client’s actions were a result of a “misunderstanding.”

Eiglarsh also stated that Taylor will be pleading not guilty to the charges. “As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit any criminal offense. This situation is a significant misunderstanding,” Eiglarsh said.

“We are confident that, once the prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence demonstrating Mr. Taylor’s innocence, he will once again achieve a favorable outcome.”

More than a decade ago, Taylor pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute in New York. In addition, he was sentenced to six years probation. This led to Taylor becoming a registered sex offender.

Due to this status, he is now required to inform law enforcement of fresh residences. In the 2021 case, Taylor pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of residency restriction for persons convicted of such crimes.

He’s also had other encounters with the law: In 2009, he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident. In 2017, Taylor pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol.

Taylor was a linebacker during his 13-year career with the New York Giants. In 1999, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
