This $3.25 Aldi Find Is The Best Comfort Food When The Weather Starts Getting Chilly

Date:

When it comes to cooking, fall is my favorite season. Maybe it’s because I grew up on my mom’s zuppa toscana and my dad’s gumbo, but fall has always felt like the ultimate season for comfort food. I can tell fall has arrived just by walking through the grocery store, when the aisles are stocked full with all the best soup mixes and seasonal flavors—pumpkin this, squash that. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good pumpkin-spiced something as much as the next girl, but to me, nothing is better on a chilly autumn day than a sultry bowl of tomato soup with grilled cheese.

Last week, craving just that, I went to the store to grab a can of Campbell soup. But just when I was about to leave, I turned the corner and stumbled upon something, dare I say, better: the Park Street Deli Tomato Feta Soup from Aldi.

Why We Love Aldi’s Tomato Feta Soup

This Tomato Feta Soup is easily one of my favorite Aldi finds ever—simply because it brings me back to my parents’ home cooking. And it should, because it says “homestyle soup” on the label. For $3.25, you get a 16-ounce tub of fresh tomato and feta soup with plain ingredients and no added sugars. The soup has a hearty tomato flavor, polished texture, and miniature feta crumbles. You’ll find it in the refrigerated section next to the cheese.

The Best Way To Enjoy Aldi’s Tomato Feta Soup

Truth be told, I could eat tomato soup and grilled cheese any given day—whether it’s 90 or 19 degrees, it doesn’t matter. It’s gotten me through long days, diseased days, good days, and everything in between. Tomato soup and grilled cheese is my go-to comfort meal in every season, and you can buy all the ingredients to make it at Aldi.

  • Bread: If you’re not buying your bread from Aldi, respectfully, you’re missing out. Aldi’s Specially Selected loaves are probably the closest you can get to homemade bread from the grocery store. Since we’re making grilled cheese, I highly recommend the Specially Selected Sourdough Loaf or Italian Loaf. The bread is fresh, so it’s best to keep your loaf in the freezer and toast the slices on a need-by-need basis.
  • Cheese: When it comes to Aldi’s wall of cheese, there are practically endless options to choose from. It really doesn’t matter what cheese you pick, but I definitely recommend buying a block (because freshly-grated cheese always tastes and melts better). My go-to is a block of cheddar, smoked gouda, or both.
  • Mayonnaise: You likely already have this in your fridge, but if not, you can pick this up at Aldi. Putting mayonnaise on the bread is a tried-and-true way to elevate any grilled cheese. Even if you’re a self-proclaimed mayonnaise hater like I was, just try it. You’ll thank me later.
  • Soup: Now for the star of the show. Heat up the Tomato Feta soup in a saucepan on the stove or in a microwave-safe in the microwave (I’ve only used the microwave, and it still always tastes homemade). As always, make sure to dip your grilled cheese in the soup to get the full experience. I hope this meal brings you warmth and comfort this season!
